چکیده

Over the past ten years there has been a research renaissance in hemicellulose chemistry as it applies to pulping and bleaching operations. Researchers have identified hemicelluloses as an important component influencing pulp yields, strength properties, and pulp bleachability. This report summarizes the research activities undertaken at IPST in the dues funded research consortium (DFRC) project F015 directed at evaluating the role of hemicelluloses in pulp bleachability. Currently, the focus of our studies is directed towards evaluating the impact that hexenuronic acids (HexA) have on chemical pulp production. These unsaturated sugars are formed by base catalyzed elimination of methanol from 4-O-methyl-D-glucurnoxylans during pulping, as shown in Figure 1.1. Clayton, Johansson and Samuelson, and Simkovi et. al established the fundamental chemical pathways involved in alkaline degradation of 4-O-methylglucuronoxylan.

The Impact of Kappa Number Composition on Eucalyptus Kraft Pulp Bleachability

Consumption of chemicals during ECF bleaching of kraft pulp correlates reasonably well with kappa number, which measures with KMnO4 the total amount of oxidizable material in the pulp. However, the method does not distinguish between the oxidizable material in residual lignin and other structures susceptible to oxidation, such as hexenuronic acids (HexAs), extractives and carbonyl groups in the...

Dissolving Pulp (alpha-cellulose) from Corn Stalk by Kraft Process

Corn stalk can be used as an alternative non-wood raw material to produce cellulosic dissolving grade pulp. In this work, the potential of corn stalk in the production of dissolving pulp (alpha-cellulose) was investigated. It was collect ed from a corn stalk farm of Kermanshah, Iran. The sequences of experimental work were: water and acid prehydrolysis at 160˚C for 30min, followed by Kraft pulp...

Analysis of pitch deposits produced in kraft pulp mills using a totally chlorine free bleaching sequence.

Two organic deposits accumulated in a Kraft pulp mill during pulping of Eucalyptus globulus wood and throughout a TCF (totally chlorine free) bleaching sequence were characterized. One deposit was collected after cooking and an oxygen delignification stage while the other was collected after bleaching with hydrogen peroxide. The deposits were Soxhlet extracted with acetone, and the extracts red...

The Effect of Different Concentrations of Activated Carbon with Bleaching Earth During Bleaching Process on Physicochemical Properties of Soybean Oil

Considering the importance of bleaching earth with activated carbon in reduction of impurities in vegetable oils, this study was conducted to investigate the effects of bleaching process on physicochemical properties of the bleached soybean oil. The bleaching process was carried out with bleaching earth (1 % w/w) containing different concentrations of activated carbon (0.1 % up to 0.5 % w/w). T...

Influence of Fungal Enzyme Pre-treatment on Totally Chlorine-free (TCF) Bleaching of Dimethyl Formamid Bagasse Pulp

A study was carried out on totally chlorine-free (TCF) bleachability of dimethyl formamide (DMF) treated bagasse pulps exposed to CZ-3 and FP 90031-sp strains of white-rot fungus Ceriporiopsis subvermispora. This process involved an oxygen and peroxide stage bleaching sequence. The effect of enzymatic stage on bleachability properties was studied and compared with control pulps, processed witho...
